Hi everyone.
Mark has advised the following dates for this winter’s volunteer work.
If you know of anyone else who would like to get involved, please get them to contact me.
Mark is still working up what the tasks will be and I will let you know nearer the time. At present it looks that all will be on the mossland and we generally will take the opportunity to look around a bit as part of the day, especially for newcomers.
The dates are:
Sunday 18 October 2015
Sunday 29 November 2015
Sunday 20 December 2015
Sunday 24 January 2016
Sunday 21 February 2016
Sunday 13 March 2016
As in previous years, the March event may be cancelled if there is a mild winter resulting in early emergence of mossland inhabitants from hibernation.
All events will start at 10:00 at the Visitor Centre. Please have warm, weatherproof clothing and appropriate footwear. Tools and essential safety gear (e.g. gloves and protective glasses) will be provided.

I wouldn’t mind joining as a winter volunteer. What sort of thing is required ?
Hi Eileen. All you need to do is turn up for a work day. The restoration of the mossland requires constant removal of small trees and shrubs, so we mostly chop down the trees and clear away the brash to help the mossland develop. It can be quit physical, but great fun. We tend to start at 10am and work as long as you can committ to but ususally stop around 2pm, as the work we have cleared tends to overwhelm the ranger if too much is done. There are other ways to help out too through out the year inluding help with public events, wildlife surveys, fund raising, Green Safari Day, and the Halloween family night walk.
Look forward to hearing from you and keep an eye on the events page for events and work days.
Hi,
Can me and my son joint in with this? Obviously participating from a sensible distance and way etc. He is nearly 5, he loves Risley Moss, we visit quite a lot. I know he would love to be involved in nature stuff like this?
Hi Mark
Unfortunately we have an age limit on the work days of 16 and over, this is due to the hazardous working conditions on the moss. Sorry, but please keep an eye out on our events page for chances to go on guided walks with the rangers throughout the year.

Paul (RIMAG Chair)
Hello Paul,
Thanks for the response, and sure, I understand etc.
